World Insurance Associates acquires O’Brien and Gibbons Insurance Agency


Leading US insurance brokerage World Insurance Associates (WIA) has announced its acquisition of O’Brien and Gibbons Insurance Agency in Worcester, MA.

The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Founded in 1961, O’Brien and Gibbons is a retail insurance agency offering both personal and commercial lines insurance. The acquisition of O’Brien and Gibbons was completed on August 01, 2022, a release said.

“O’Brien and Gibbons has strong market relationships, a diverse client base, and many long-term client relationships,” said O’Brien and Gibbons president Walter J. Shea. “We are looking forward to being a part of World and providing our clients with additional products and services.”

“On behalf of the World family, I’d like to welcome O’Brien & Gibbons,” commented WIA co-founder and CEO Rich Eknoian. “They have a long history serving Massachusetts and surrounding states, and I know they will be a terrific addition to our business.”

Earlier this year, WIA revealed it had acquired Mid Atlantic Insurance Agency. Mid Atlantic is a commercial wholesaler based in Richmond VA which specializes in workers’ compensation.
