Why BIBA 2023 is the networking place to be

Why BIBA 2023 is the networking place to be

Authored by Ian Fox, UK Head of Sales, HSB

We’re spoilt for choice for conferences aimed at insurance professionals, but there’s always a buzz about attending BIBA which makes it a memorable experience. BIBA is the place to be for UK insurance brokers, insurers, MGAs and suppliers from all backgrounds, however on a personal and professional level, it offers me and many others so much more than that.

So, what makes it different? From my perspective, BIBA offers a massive sense of community spirit and the chance to form relationships that you may not form elsewhere. It’s a unique event which represents the entire general insurance marketplace where everyone comes together within one united support network.

From making new connections to meeting with familiar faces and strengthening existing relationships, I try and take a little bit of everything from my BIBA experience. One of my favourite aspects is catching up with former colleagues and old friends who I have a special bond with. I really enjoy going down memory lane with them, chatting about how our career paths are developing and how we are faring on a personal level.

I love talking and listening, which is just as well as everyone you bump into at BIBA is willing to engage in conversation!

What’s new at BIBA 2023?

This year’s BIBA feels particularly significant for me as it will mark the six-month anniversary of my appointment as UK Head of Sales at HSB. Working more closely with brokers is a key aspect of our sales strategy and I’m looking forward to learning how we can provide further value to our partners at this year’s conference.

If my excitement isn’t enough, HSB will also be introducing our new BIBA computer insurance scheme to members at this year’s conference. Launched recently, it’s been a real team effort working with BIBA to get the scheme over the line and we’re very proud to have been chosen for our specialist expertise in this area. Now that it’s launched, we recognise the vital role that brokers play in helping their customers to manage their computer risks to ensure they have the right level of protection.

Make it count

I can’t wait for BIBA, but as we all know, there is considerable time and costs involved with attending conferences. Fortunately, the return on investment from attending BIBA is always strong, which is why it has cemented its position as the number one networking event for insurance professionals in the UK for over 40 years!

To get the most out of BIBA, I strive to make new contacts and introduce myself to people I’ve not met before. It can be daunting, but we’re all in the same boat, so I try to keep an open mind when making new connections to see how we could help each other going forward.

As the old saying goes, “nothing ventured, nothing gained”. From every conversation I have, I always aim to leave with an outcome, even if it’s just a case of keeping in touch.

I can feel my post-BIBA ‘To do’ list getting bigger already! See you at the conference!
