W. R. Berkley Corporation has announced the appointment of Lee Iannarone as senior vice president and general counsel.

Iannarone will assume the role effective immediately, the company said. He succeeds Philip S. Welt, who will continue to serve as executive vice president and secretary.

In his new position, Iannarone will report directly to Welt and assume responsibility for overseeing the legal affairs of the company.

Iannarone brings nearly 25 years of legal experience to his new role, having most recently served as general counsel and chief compliance officer for a globally recognized (re)insurer.

“We are delighted to welcome Lee to the Berkley team,” said W. Robert Berkley Jr., president and CEO of W.R. Berkley Corporation. “His broad range of insurance experience provides him with a deep understanding of the business environment and the markets in which we operate. We look forward to his many contributions to our organisation.”

In October last year, W.R. Berkley announced the formation of Berkley E&S Solutions, which provides surplus lines casualty coverage to middle-market and large accounts.
