Toronto hospital confirms data security incident
It comes after attack on several Ontario hospitals
A Toronto hospital has confirmed that it is investigating a “data security incident” that it was made aware of last week.
In an update posted on its website, Michael Garron Hospital said it is looking into the impact of the incident with the help of third-party experts.
It noted that there are currently no “known impacts” on clinical applications or patient care services.
As part of its response to the cyber incident, the hospital said it has initiated a code grey, which is used in situations involving the loss of crucial infrastructure within the facility.
“Out of an abundance of caution, our teams are planning and implementing additional proactive measures to safeguard our data and information systems while the investigation is underway,” the hospital’s update stated further.
The attacks on Windsor Regional Hospital, Erie Shores HealthCare, Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare, Bluewater Health, and the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance affected patient records and other online services.
The Ministry of Health had acknowledged the breach that impacted these hospitals, which all share the same IT provider – TransForm.
“The ministry is confident that TransForm SSO has and continues to take appropriate steps in response to managing this incident,” its statement said.
Several government agencies have also reported being impacted by the data breach that targeted the MOVEit file transfer service back in May.
