The Hartford has announced a strategic restructuring, integrating operations with the technology, data, analytics & cyber role under the stewardship of Deepa Soni (pictured), who currently serves as chief information officer and head of the tech functions.

The immediate change comes ahead of executive vice president John Kinney’s departure on April 5. Kinney has been with The Hartford since 2003, most recently leading claims and operations from 2021. Chief claims officer Steve Deane, meanwhile, now reports to chair and chief executive Christopher Swift.

“Over the past several years, we have invested aggressively in technology – expanding digital capabilities, simplifying processes and platforms, and applying data, analytics, and artificial intelligence to enhance products, services, and customer experience across the enterprise,” Swift said.

“Combining customer-facing operations with our technology centers of expertise accelerates the benefits of our investments and supports the company’s ambitious growth agenda.”

Soni, who has been with The Hartford since 2019 after a successful tenure in the banking industry, took on her current role in 2021. Her leadership has been pivotal in the company’s shift towards cloud-based digital platforms and the broader incorporation of automation, artificial intelligence, and advanced data analytics.

As for Kinney, his stint at The Hartford began in 2003 and has been marked by progressively significant roles. He was instrumental in leveraging claims data to enhance outcomes for both claimants and employers. Additionally, his commitment to diversity & inclusion has been evident through his role as the executive sponsor of the company’s Black Insurance Professionals Network.

“I am personally grateful for John’s leadership and deeply value his many contributions to The Hartford,” Swift stated. “The organizational changes… demonstrate our disciplined approach to leader development and succession planning. I am confident in our talented management team and excited about all that lies ahead for our company.”
