A team from Talcott Re, a reinsurance company, participated in a project aimed at transforming the former St James’s Church rectory in Sandys, known as Bridge House, into a residential treatment center. According to The Royal Gazette, the employees of Talcott Re took part by sanding and refinishing wooden doors, window frames, and railings in this historically listed building.

The project, which is a collaborative effort between Habitat for Humanity of Bermuda, the Anglican Church of Bermuda, and the Mid-Atlantic Wellness Institute, aims to repurpose the rectory into a vital facility for community-based housing, programs, and support tailored to individuals facing mental health challenges.

Sheelagh Cooper, chairwoman of the charity Habitat for Humanity of Bermuda, expressed admiration for the efforts of Talcott Re’s crew during the previous month. Cooper highlighted that the rectory is on track to be completed and ready to welcome patients by the end of February.

The center’s purpose is to provide accommodation for individuals currently housed in the Mid-Atlantic Wellness Institute, with the overarching goal of enhancing the standard of care for those grappling with mental illness. Notably, Talcott Re’s ongoing commitment to supporting Habitat for Humanity includes a donation of $30,000 in 2023, coupled with volunteer contributions to the cause.

“Talcott continues to be a great support to Habitat, having donated $30,000 in 2023 and now providing volunteer help,” said Cooper.
