Suncorp New Zealand has announced Ecotricity as its new utility provider for the insurer’s 12 office spaces across Aotearoa.

This change in provider means that the insurer’s offices are now running on 100% renewable and sustainable power, reflecting Suncorp New Zealand’s key focus on sustainability.

This relationship with Ecotricity also means that the insurer no longer has to purchase renewable energy certificates to offset emissions as it was previously doing. The renewable energy provided by Ecotricity comes with no associated emissions as well.

Ecotricty is the country’s first and only Toitū Climate Positive certified electricity provider, meaning that it only purchases energy from specific wind, hydro, and solar generation sites that have been measured against UN-based protocol ISO14067 standard.

Suncorp New Zealand executive manager for corporate affairs and sustainability Carly Orr said that the insurer is proud to continue on their sustainability journey and towards its net-zero target.

“Switching to a provider who have 100% renewable Toitū Climate Positive energy is a great step toward meeting our target,” Orr said. “That’s something we can feel really good about,” Orr said. “Our team are continually reviewing how our business is impacting the environment, which is important to help us meet our sustainability goals.”
