Three countries to benefit from newly created role

Sun Life has announced the appointment of Randy Lianggara as president, emerging markets, Asia, effective Nov. 1, 2024.

In this newly created role, Lianggara will be responsible for leading the company’s growth initiatives in Indonesia, Vietnam, and Malaysia. He will also manage Sun Life’s joint venture with China Everbright Group in mainland China.

Randy Lianggara’s career

Lianggara comes to Sun Life with extensive experience, having served as regional CEO, Asia, at Aviva, and as regional CEO for China, Indonesia, and Vietnam. Before that, he spent 10 years as CEO of AXA Indonesia.

Welcoming Lianggara to the Sun Life Asia executive team, Singh said the new hire’s industry expertise and experience in building insurance businesses in emerging markets will be valuable as the company continues to grow and support its clients across the region.

“He will be instrumental as we continue to expand our presence and help more clients across Asia to live healthier lives and achieve financial security,” Singh said.

Lianggara commented on his new role, stating that he looks forward to contributing to Sun Life’s development strategy in Asia.

“The emerging markets in Asia offer tremendous opportunities, and I am eager to help drive our growth strategy. Together, we will continue to deliver innovative solutions that will empower our clients to achieve financial security and wellbeing,” he said.

Lianggara holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Iowa State University and an MBA from Golden Gate University. He is a Certified Financial Planner and holds multiple financial industry certifications.

Sun Life’s chief agency officer for Asia

In a separate move, Sun Life recently appointed David Lim as chief agency officer for its Asia operations, effective Sept. 2, 2024. He is based in Hong Kong and reports to David Broom, chief client and distribution officer for Asia.

Lim, who previously worked for over a decade at Prudential plc in senior roles across agency distribution and digital strategies, is expected to focus on leveraging technology to expand Sun Life’s reach.

Sun Life’s chief risk officer for Asia

Sun Life also recently appointed Niall Grady as chief risk officer for Asia, effective Sept. 16, 2024.

Grady’s new role involves overseeing risk governance and implementing strategies that support Sun Life’s growth while ensuring compliance across its diverse Asian markets.

With over 20 years of experience in the financial services sector, including senior roles at FWD Group, Grady brings a wealth of knowledge in risk management and compliance.
