Singlife with Aviva adopts new name, renews defence contract

Along with the name change, Singlife also announced the renewal of its contract as the official insurer for the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) and Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) group insurance scheme. Singlife inherited the portfolio from Aviva Singapore, which first signed the deal with the ministries in 2016. It then won the public tender, allowing it to continue providing cover for the National Service (NS).

Singlife will provide core insurance coverage for all in-service personnel, NSmen and NS volunteers. It will also operate a voluntary insurance scheme for all eligible MINDEF and MHA personnel, as well as their dependents.

Key enhancements include the doubling of cover for the group term life (GTL) and group personal accident (GPA) policies of the core scheme – from SG$150,000 to SG$300,000 each. The GPA will also be renamed as the group personal injury policy and enhanced to more comprehensively cover conditions that are specific to MINDEF and MHA’s operating environment, such as noise-induced hearing damage or decompression sickness, Singlife said.

As part of the voluntary scheme, servicemen can now be covered for a maximum of SG$1 million, up from the current maximum of SG$600,000. They can also continue to purchase up to SG$1 million in coverage under the GTL policy.

In commemoration of the National Service’s 55th anniversary, MINDEF and MHA service personnel can avail various rewards and promotions through the Singlife App.
