SGI Canada makes $30,000 donation to education program

In partnership with Contractor Connection, SGI Canada has donated a total of $30,000 to the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies (SIIT), to help the First Nations college train the next generation of construction professionals.

The donation will be used to upgrade the technological infrastructure at SIIT Career Centres. The funding will also be used to support individuals with licensing, safety, and technical training.

Contractor Connection – a Crawford & Company division – is a network of expert contractors. The network has been a partner with SGI Canada since 2021, and together they have been providing repair and recovery services to customers affected by insurable losses.

“This donation contributes to the skills and knowledge held in the trades across Saskatchewan,” said SGI Canada president and CEO Penny McCune in a release. “That means people whose property has been damaged will be able to reopen their businesses faster, get back into their homes more quickly and make a fresh start because of the work done by students who have graduated from SIIT.”

“We hope that this donation will help SIIT to train a great new group of construction tradespeople so they can thrive in Saskatchewan’s construction industry,” added Contractor Connection vice president Cortney Young.

“This generous donation from Contractor Connection and SGI CANADA will help support the continued growth of our nine SIIT Career Centre locations across the province,” stated SIIT vice president of employment development and career services Lisa Shingoose. “As we partner with First Nations communities across the province to support the development of a skilled and labour-ready workforce, our Career Centres help to reduce barriers and provide vital employment services, skills training and wraparound supports to help close employment gaps.”

SGI Canada was selected as one of Insurance Business’ 5-Star Carriers for 2022. According to SGI EVP and COO Andrew Voroney, part of the insurer’s secret to success is its commitment to “supporting the customer through all their relationships with [the company’s] broker partners,” and offering customers a range of options to simplify their needs.
