Rockford Mutual Insurance Co has announced that Kent Shantz, former president and chief executive officer, and acting executive consultant, has retired.
Shantz began his tenure at the company in 2012 as vice president of operations, bringing over 30 years of experience in insurance management across marketing, underwriting, and claims. According to a report from AM Best, he was promoted to chief operations officer in 2013 and became president and CEO in 2017.
In November 2023, Shantz stepped down from his CEO role and continued to serve as an executive consultant, aiding the executive team in the transition towards his retirement, according to a company statement.
During his time at Rockford Mutual, Shantz contributed to significant developments, such as expanding the company’s commercial portfolio, enhancing workplace inclusivity and diversity, and spearheading advancements in the company’s technology and rating platforms.
With over 40 years in the insurance sector, Shantz plans to leverage his experience by starting his own consulting firm, Kirtland Consulting Services LLC, based in Florida, the company noted.
In November, Rob Jacobson was named as Shantz’s successor, taking on the roles of president and CEO. Rockford Mutual Insurance Co. currently holds an A- (Excellent) rating for financial strength from AM Best.
Shantz’s career includes various roles at Rockford Mutual and other companies. He has also served as a board member for the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC) and the Illinois Insurance Association, as well as an advisory board member for the Salvation Army. His previous positions include executive roles at Fremont Insurance Company and Auto-Owners Insurance Company.
