RACQ is actively assisting members affected by flooding in Far North Queensland in the aftermath of Tropical Cyclone Jasper.

As of 12:30pm on December 19, RACQ had received a total of 299 insurance claims. Among these, 216 pertained to home and contents, while 83 were related to motor vehicle claims.

RACQ assists flood-affected members

RACQ group CEO David Carter emphasised the ongoing support provided by RACQ’s Mobile Member Centre, situated at James Cook University’s Smithfield campus since last Friday. The centre serves as a hub for members to file claims and seek assistance. In response to the surge in online and phone claims, RACQ has reinforced its claims lodgements teams.

“Our assessors and repairers are on standby and are being deployed when it is safe to do so. Claims will be triaged, according to need and circumstances,” he said. “The quickest and easiest way to lodge your claim is to go online. Using our online portal, you can also upload photos of the damage to help speed up your claim.

“If you would prefer to speak to a consultant, in addition to our Mobile Member Centre, our Cairns store is open from today or you can call us on 13 72 02.”

RACQ’s Roadside Assistance crews are also active in the region, despite road closures affecting operations.

“We urge drivers to avoid the roads and stay at home. This will allow emergency responders, including our crews, to move more safely so they can continue to help those in need,” Carter said. “If you are experiencing an emergency, please call 000 immediately.”

The Mobile Member Centre, located at James Cook University (88 McGregor Road, Smithfield), operates from December 19, with daily hours from 9am to 5pm.

Tips for affected customers

In preparation for claims, RACQ advised members to:


Make notes and take photos of belongings;
Dispose of spoiled food and document with photos;
Record model or serial numbers of discarded items;
Remove wet materials like carpets and document for replacement;
Create a list of essentials for replacement, retaining receipts; and
Prioritize safety as the primary concern.
