RACQ pledges $2.1 million to flood affected communities

Report proposes 'self-funding' insurance model for export industries

RACQ says it will provide $2.1 million to assist community and sports groups in southeast Queensland affected by flooding.

It says it approved 73 organisations for funding earlier in the year as it continues to support communities reeling from recent flooding.

“As a mutual organisation, it’s in our DNA to help our members and their communities, particularly in their time of need,” RACQ CEO David Carter said.

“Queenslanders have shown extraordinary camaraderie and resilience in the face of heartbreaking challenges not only this year, but in the past several years, as drought, cyclones, storms, and floods have ravaged the state.”

The grants will help community groups, many of them non-for-profit, to pay for rebuilding costs as communities begin the recovery process from the floods.

“We’re committed to being there our members, their families and communities now and through the long recovery and rebuilding process,” Mr Carter said.

Ipswich Knights Soccer Club president Tony Beahan thanked RACQ for the contribution and said the funds would help bring kids back to the soccer pitch quicker.

“Without the support of organisations like RACQ we’d struggle to get back on our feet but with this generous contribution our players will be able to return to the fields earlier than expected,” Mr Beahan said.

“We’re excited to see these works completed and get back to focusing on growing our program and welcoming more kids to the world game.”

RACQ encourages all Queensland sporting clubs, community groups, charities, and organisations with charitable purposes that have been impacted by floods to apply for a grant.
