Quebec ranks first in list of provinces with the most workplace injuries list

A new study has identified the Canadian provinces where workplace injuries are most prevalent, based on data from the Association of Workers’ Compensation Boards of Canada and Statistics Canada. 

Preszler Injury Lawyers calculated the rate of lost-time claims per 100,000 employees in each province, revealing Quebec as the most dangerous province to work in.

A lost-time claim was defined as compensation for an employee who missed work for more than eight working days.

Quebec recorded 2,609.54 lost-time claims per 100,000 workers in 2022, with 124,123 claims filed. This represents a 57% increase from 2021, when 78,813 claims were reported. 

British Columbia ranked second, with 2,095.96 claims per 100,000 employees. The province saw 62,294 claims in 2022, a 12% rise from 55,653 in 2021.

In third place is Manitoba, which recorded 1,944.48 claims per 100,000 workers. The province saw 14,360 claims in 2022, a 10% increase from 13,067 the previous year.

The study underscores variations in workplace injury rates across provinces, highlighting differences in safety conditions and reporting trends.

Commenting on the findings, a spokesperson for Preszler Injury Lawyers said that workplace injuries can affect the entire team, lowering its morale and causing delays, which in turn could lessen productivity.

“It is crucial that employers maintain a hygienic and safe workplace environment to prevent employees from becoming injured or falling ill,” Preszler Injury Lawyers said.
