Qube Research & Technologies (QRT) hires Securis cat bond specialist Rayees

Qube Research & Technologies (QRT), a global quantitative and systematic investment manager that specialises in a technology and data-driven approach to allocation across liquid asset classes, has hired Securis catastrophe bond portfolio management specialist Raphael Rayees, the company has confirmed.
Qube Research & Technologies (QRT) entered the insurance-linked securities (ILS) market recently, launching a quantitative trading strategy, with the main focus said to be on catastrophe bonds and a desire to find a trading edge there, but we’re told also with some interest in private ILS and reinsurance.
Former Schroders executive Daniel Ineichen was hired first to lead an insurance-linked securities (ILS) strategy at QRT, joining the hedge fund manager as Quantitative Trading Director ILS.
Now, another very experienced ILS market specialist is joining QRT to build-out their operations in the space, as Raphael Rayees has also accepted a position there, QRT has confirmed.
Rayees had worked at Securis Investment Partners in London for almost nine years.
He joined Securis as an investment analyst in 2016, before becoming its Head of Traded ILS in 2018 and the firm’s main catastrophe bond portfolio manager in 2019.
Previously, Rayees had worked in reinsurance capital advisory at broker Aon and at Lloyd’s in investment related roles.
Rayees has portfolio managed a successful catastrophe bond strategy over a long-period, so will now bring that deep sector experience to QRT, as the quant hedge fund investment firm looks to make insurance-linked securities (ILS) a core component of its strategy.
