PWC Partner shares advice to pave way for women in tech

Look for allies, back yourself and “be the leader you wish you had,” Sydney-based PwC Partner Jacqui Visch advises Australians working in the tech sector ahead of International Women’s Day on Wednesday.

Ms Visch, who is Chief Digital Information Officer, says PwC Australia is “passionate about cracking the code to build a gender equal future,” and Australians need to unite to build a positive new culture in business.

“I’ve been asked to share my advice and the actions I’m taking to pave the way for women in tech,” she said. “Women in cyber, tech and STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) are a minority. By uniting with like-minded professionals and allies, we will grow our numbers.”

Female professionals should look for mentors, trusted colleagues and managers who “lift you – people who’ll have your back,” Ms Visch said.

Secondly, “back yourself to learn on the fly,” she advised, as emerging technologies are an evolving landscape that is new for everyone.

“You’re smart and creative enough to handle a transformative space like tech,” she said.

Lastly, Ms Visch said to “be the leader – the example – you wish you had” to make things better for men and women coming through the pipeline.

“It’s the only way we will achieve positive and inclusive change,” she said.
