IAG-backed NRMA Insurance (NRMA) has expanded its support for the McGrath Foundation by funding a second McGrath Breast Care Nurse for a three-year term, a development stemming from successful fundraising initiatives during the NRMA Insurance Pink Test.

NRMA has allocated a substantial donation of $420,000 to the McGrath Foundation, specifically earmarked to fund McGrath Breast Care Nurse, Helen Moore, at Calvary Mater Newcastle for the next three years. This financial support is expected to provide essential assistance to numerous families in need.

Breast cancer care in Australia

NRMA emphasised an increasing demand for specialised McGrath Breast Cancer Nurses, given the daily diagnosis rate of 57 cases of breast cancer in Australia. These nurses play a crucial role in addressing the diverse physical, emotional, and psychological needs of breast cancer patients, providing care and support at no cost.

Moore expressed her sense of pride in being a central point of contact for her patients, ensuring their reassurance and support.

“It’s a privilege to be a trusted, consistent advocate for people with breast cancer and their families,” she said.

Glenn McGrath, co-founder and president of the McGrath Foundation, emphasised the significance of the nurses in helping patients and their families navigate both the medical system and the emotional complexities associated with a breast cancer diagnosis.

“With the growing rate of breast cancer diagnoses in Australia, the funding we receive from NRMA Insurance is vital and is helping us towards achieving our goal of funding 250 nurses to help ensure no one misses out on care,” he said.

NRMA sponsorship

Backing McGrath Foundation builds upon NRMA’s prior sponsorship announcement in 2023, in which it committed to supporting South Australian McGrath Breast Care Nurse, Kate Williams, for a three-year term.

Michelle Klein, chief customer and marketing officer at NRMA, expressed pride in continuing support for the foundation, this time extending aid to those affected by breast cancer in Newcastle and surrounding suburbs.

“We have seen firsthand the incredible impact Kate Williams has had in her community in South Australia. From diagnosis right throughout treatment, McGrath Breast Care Nurses help individuals and their families free of charge. This support is invaluable and, importantly, gives people time in their lives that is not defined by breast cancer,” she said.

The funds for the McGrath Foundation were raised during the NRMA Insurance Pink Test’s Jane McGrath Day on Jan. 5. Cricket enthusiasts participating in the NRMA Insurance Pitch-In activation played a pivotal role in fundraising, with each hit translating to a $1 donation from the insurer. Furthermore, for every NRMA policy sold on the same day, the insurer contributed $100 to the McGrath Foundation.
