Munich Re makes senior Southeast Asia appointment


Munich Re has appointed Akash Gupta (pictured above) as managing director and head, Southeast Asia life and health, effective July 01.

Based in Singapore, Gupta reports to David Hughes, CEO, Munich Re Life & Health – Asia (excluding Greater China).

Since joining Munich Re in 2009, Gupta has held a variety of roles in India and Singapore. He is currently Munich Re’s head of life and health Asia valuation and planning.

“I am confident that we will be able to leverage Akash’s extensive experience in financial reporting, strategic planning, pricing and proposition development work to bring greater value to our clients,” Hughes said. 

Before joining Munich Re, Gupta was an investment manager with a pensions company in the UK. He is a qualified actuary, a fellow of the Institute of Actuaries (India), the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (UK) and the Singapore Actuarial Society (SAS). He also chairs the SAS flagship actuarial conference. He holds a bachelor’s degree in accountancy and business statistics and a diploma in computer programming.
