MultiStrat appoints reinsurance veteran Maryam Abdullah as Head of Pricing

MultiStrat, the specialist underwriter, reinsurance investment facilitator and casualty insurance-linked securities (ILS) company, has announced that it has appointed Maryam Abdullah as Head of Pricing, to support the company’s growth plans for 2025.

Based in Bermuda, Abdullah who has been with MultiStrat since 2022, working as a consultant, now joins the organisation on a full-time basis.

Abdullah, who specialises in product development for structured and capital relief transactions, is a fully qualified Actuary (FIA) with over 20 years of actuarial experience.

She also brings more than 10 years of experience from working as a broker in the capital markets and re/insurance sectors towards her new role.

Before she joined MultiStrat, Abdullah worked as a consultant at numerous companies across the re/insurance market, including Greenlight Re, Renaissance Re, and the African Risk Capacity.

She also previously served in the Head of Capital position at Capsicum Re, which rebranded to Gallagher Re in 2020 following Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. (AJG) taking 100% ownership of the company.

Commenting on Abdullah’s appointment, MultiStrat Chief Executive Officer Bob Forness, said: “We are thrilled to have someone of Maryam’s caliber on our underwriting team. Her extensive experience across insurance, reinsurance, and capital markets will further strengthen our underwriting expertise and help the company forge ahead with its ambitious growth strategy.”

Throughout the last two years, MultiStrat has made a series of senior hires and promotions, as the company continues to invest in advanced data, insurance and investment pricing, and portfolio optimisation capabilities to facilitate its future growth ambitions in casualty insurance-linked securities (ILS).

In September, the company announced that Kier James stepped up from Vice President, Underwriting, to the role of Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO), while Patrick Grealy, Executive Vice President, transitioned to the expanded role of Portfolio and Performance Management.
