MS Amlin appoints industry veteran to newly created role

MS Amlin Underwriting has appointed Grant Baxter (pictured) to the newly created role of head of reinsurance and deputy chief underwriting officer, bringing his two decades’ worth of experience in insurance and reinsurance to the firm.

Baxter will take up his role near the end of the year subject to regulatory approval. He will report to MS Amlin chief underwriting officer Andrew Carrier from the (re)insurer’s London office.

Before joining MS Amlin, Baxter held various senior roles in Liberty over the course of a decade. He most recently led portfolio management in the firm’s global risk solutions division, prior to which he was responsible for its global ceded reinsurance strategy.

On the broking side, Baxter began his career at Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs before moving on to Aon and, later, Willis Re as the latter’s executive director.

“Grant brings with him real depth of knowledge, skill, and true cross-class awareness and understanding,” Carrier said. “Grant will be central to the execution of our underwriting strategy, leading our reinsurance teams, as well as providing broader support across our entire underwriting faculty. His appointment demonstrates our continued commitment to build our underwriting bench strength, as well as our ability to attract highly capable talent.”
