Law firm Meridian Lawyers has announced the launch of a new office on Barton in Canberra, expanding its footprint to the Australian Capital Territory. Among the Canberra team are principal Angel Li, senior associate Jesse Iliopoulos, and associate Christine Neou, with Li serving as the head of the ACT team. They will be joining Meridian on 13 November.

Li brings to the law firm more than 10 years’ insurance litigation experience, specialising in CTP, public liability, catastrophic injuries, workers’ compensation, medical negligence, and motor and recovery claims, according to a news release. She also advises on commercial matters, particularly focusing on immigration law.

Iliopoulos is recognised in the jurisdiction for regularly advocating for clients in contentious matters and is known for his versatile approach to litigation. He has worked on a number of significant cases in the ACT in recent years.

Neou has a diverse experience in liaising with private and government clients across different lines of insurance. She has a track record of commercially sound and timely resolutions for clients, according to Meridian.

“I am thrilled to welcome Angel, Jesse and Christine to Meridian. Paying close attention to requests from our clients, and as a direct result of our growth over the past six months, we are excited to have a local presence in Canberra,” said Paul Baker, managing director at Meridian. “Angel and her team have a stellar reputation in the ACT market and bring skills that complement the expertise of our national insurance team as well as our commercial capabilities.” He noted the opening of the new Canberra office has been well received by the clients.

“We have long respected the deep insurance, allied health, and commercial expertise at Meridian, and look forward to being a part of the vibrant collaborative culture,” said Li.

Meridian Lawyers’ focus is in insurance, corporate and commercial, workplace relations and safety, commercial litigation and dispute resolution and health. It was named Insurance Specialist Firm of the Year in 2020. It was also selected as the only Australian law firm to join the Insuralex Global Insurance Lawyers Group, a global insurance and reinsurance law firm network.
