Bermuda-headquartered specialty insurer and reinsurer, AXIS Capital, recently hired Matthew Galbraith, formerly of Parameter Climate and TigerRisk Partners, as an insurance-linked securities (ILS) Analyst.

Galbraith joined the AXIS ILS team in New York in June after more than 18 months with Parameter Climate, the parametric climate risk transfer focused underwriter and advisor, which he joined in November 2022 as an Associate, before becoming Product Manager.

Prior to this, he spent almost three years with TigerRisk Partners (now part of Howden Re), first as a reinsurance broker intern and then as a reinsurance broker, based in New York.

Galbraith joins the AXIS ILS team shortly after Kyle Freeman was appointed Head of ILS at the specialty re/insurer, as the firm continues to build out its third party capital operations.

Through its AXIS ILS unit, the company has been expanding its third party capital activities, highlighted recently by its landmark $75 million Long Walk Reinsurance Ltd. (Series 2024-1) 144A cyber catastrophe bond issuance in 2023, and also its partnership with Stone Point to launch casualty ILS vehicle Monarch Point Re.

In Q1 2024, AXIS recognised an increase in fee income from its work with third party investors, and the firm has said previously that it is committed to the ILS space and keen to continue sharing risks with investors, as it looks to build on opportunities to match the right risk with the right capital.
