Markel Corporation has announced the hiring of Amandeep Dhillon as Managing Director, Global Head of Catastrophe and Exposure Management, who joins the company from his most recent position as a senior ceded reinsurance officer at AIG.

Dhillon has extensive experience in catastrophe risk modelling, exposure management and reinsurance buying.

At Markel, he will lead the firm’s approach to catastrophe and exposure management across its global insurance and reinsurance platform.

With Markel owning leading insurance-linked securities (ILS) investment manager Nephila Capital, Dhillon will no doubt have at least some input into the coordination between the traditional and ILS sides of Markel’s re/insurance platform.

His leadership on catastrophe and exposure management will extend across all lines of coverage at Markel, including property and marine, casualty, cyber, and professional liability.

“Accelerating Markel’s catastrophe and exposure management capabilities across the platform is a strategic priority, and Amandeep Dhillon’s extensive experience will bring tremendous value to the organization,” explained Guenter Kryszon, Global Executive Underwriting Officer, Property, for Markel. “His leadership will help Markel enhance current methodologies and develop bespoke solutions.”

Dhillon will report to Kryszon and will be based in Markel’s Glen Allen, Virginia office.

Hi brings more than 15 years of insurance and reinsurance industry experience, with his career having begun at ACE Group as an AVP of catastrophe risk management.

He moved to AIG in 2015, initially in roles related to catastrophe risk analytics and modelling, then becoming a senior ceded reinsurance officer at the firm for its property book in 2021.
