Chaucer, the global specialty re/insurance group, has announced the appointment of Nicola Miles (pictured above) as class underwriter for ports and terminals.

Miles brings over 20 years of experience in the marine insurance sector, having held significant roles at major insurers, including AIG and Navigators Insurance Company, where she worked as senior marine liability underwriter.

In addition to her underwriting experience, Miles also worked as a consultant for the Chartered Insurance Institute, contributing to the development of professional assessments, including ACII modules on marine cargo and risk management.

In her new role at Chaucer, Miles will join the marine team, reporting to James Irvine, leader of global hull lines. She will also collaborate closely with Graham Harrison, class underwriter for ports and terminals, to further develop Chaucer’s presence in the ports and terminals insurance market.

Simon Schnorr, head of marine and energy at Chaucer, welcomed Miles to the team, noting her expertise in marine insurance.

“Ports and terminals is one of our key specialty marine products – and we have a firmly established market-leading position in this sector,” Schnorr said. “Nicola will also help us enhance the high level of service we offer our broker partners and clients.”

Harrison also expressed his enthusiasm for working with Miles, emphasizing the opportunity to further strengthen Chaucer’s UK, London market, and international insurance offerings in the ports and terminals sector.

“I’m thrilled to be joining the marine team here at Chaucer to help Simon, Graham and James further develop our ports and terminals offering. Chaucer is a renowned market leader in marine insurance – and right now is an exciting time in this space,” Harrison said.

Chaucer’s services are accessed through Lloyd’s of London and company markets. The company is part of the China Re Group, one of the world’s largest reinsurance companies, which holds ratings of A (excellent) from AM Best and A (strong) from S&P Global Ratings.
