Liberty Mutual Insurance Group’s reinsurance arm, LM Re, has announced the appointment of Mark De La Mare as the new head of Australia and New Zealand operations, beginning in October. De La Mare will report to James Green, head of property – London, and John McCabe, chief operating officer – Asia Pacific.

As the new head, LM Re announced, La Mare will be leading LM Re’s underwriting team based in Sydney, playing a critical role in LM Re’s strategy for the region.

De La Mare will bring over 15 years of experience in the industry as the new head of the newly established LM Re – Australia, replacing the ARUS MGA that previously managed LM Re’s Australasia portfolio written through Lloyd’s. The reinsurance firm said that the new team will continue the build-out of Liberty’s existing business in Australia.

Before his new stint in LM Re, De La Mare served as head of property in Australia of Aon’s reinsurance solutions. De La Mare has extensive experience in the reinsurance sector and has worked extensively with catastrophe risk modelling, and strategic reinsurance placements.

“We are very pleased indeed to welcome Mark to LM Re to develop and strengthen the local reinsurance presence we have built in the region,” Green said. “Mark’s deep industry knowledge and experience will be invaluable as we strengthen our operations in Australia and New Zealand.”
