BRP Group’s reinsurance brokerage arm has set up shop in Bermuda, in addition to naming a new head for the island nation’s office.

Juniper Re has received preliminary approval from the Bermuda Monetary Authority (BMA) to initiate operations in Bermuda through its subsidiary, Juniper Re Bermuda, with the company naming Chris Hayward as the head of office for this new operation.

With over three decades of experience, Hayward’s career spans notable positions, including leadership roles at MS Amlin AG and nearly a quarter-century at Willis Re. His recent stint as chief underwriting officer at MS Amlin AG’s Bermuda branch underscored his expertise in underwriting strategy, change management, and profitability enhancement, the company said.

Juniper Re lauded Hayward’s return to the broking sector as a homecoming to his professional roots, underscoring his well-regarded status in the Bermuda reinsurance market and his adeptness at blending analytical rigor with relationship management.

“I am eager to contribute my experience to further solidify Juniper Re’s position in the reinsurance industry,” Hayward said. “The company’s commitment to authenticity and collaboration aligns perfectly with my own values and I look forward to being part of the team and building strong relationships with clients and colleagues.”

“There’s more coming”

The Bermuda operation, pending full licensing and formal registration by the BMA, also signifies Juniper Re’s expansion into a jurisdiction renowned for its leadership in the reinsurance market and as the principal provider of catastrophe reinsurance to US insurers.

Juniper Re anticipates the move will enhance its global reach and capabilities, offering access to a broader range of resources and talent.

Jeff Irvan, president of Juniper Re, expressed enthusiasm about Hayward’s appointment and the launch of Bermuda operations.

“His vast experience in the reinsurance industry, and specifically Bermuda, is an invaluable asset and his leadership will play a crucial role in our growth,” Irvan said. “This move is a testament to our commitment to our clients and our focus on building an experienced, innovative team. There’s more coming, so keep an eye on Juniper Re.”
