The Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) and insurers will visit the Adelaide community for a community information session and in-person consultations.

The activities aim to help customers affected by the recent flood that devastated River Murray communities.

The ICA updated on the situation in Adelaide and its decision to visit there that:


most of the claims (80%) lodged in the city to date are for holiday homes;
the city has a reduced number of people currently living in flood-impacted areas;
property damage along the River Murray covers a wide area, with no obvious epicentre in which to base a local consultation; and
the city has several venues available to host a large function in flood-impacted locations.

“The Insurance Council and insurers look forward to assisting policyholders impacted by the recent River Murray flooding,” said ICA CEO Andrew Hall. “We are hoping that holding the community event at a central location in Adelaide’s CBD means we can assist as many people as possible impacted by this protracted flood.

“Based on our experiences and practice following other recent flooding events in the eastern states, we know that these events can provide a lot of valuable information and help customers move their claim process along faster.”

Community session in Adelaide

The community session in the Adelaide community will provide policyholders with general information, including the insurance claim management process, understanding a scope of works, claim timeframes, complaint avenues, available support, and tips to navigate the claims and recovery process.

The session will also include a presentation by the ICA and a Q&A session for customers asking general questions in a public forum, followed by in-person meetings – which will allow customers to speak with their insurer directly about their claims.

The ICA and insurers will hold the activities on May 8, 2023 (Monday) at U City, 43 Franklin Street, Adelaide:


community information session: 5:15pm to 6:30pm;
in-person meetings: 6:30pm to 8:00pm

Customers in regional areas unable to attend the event in Adelaide can register for a call back from their insurer on the ICA website.
