Indian man accused of hiring hitmen to kill father for insurance money

A man from Madhya Pradesh, India was arrested following suspicions that he had hired hitmen to kill his father for insurance money and make it look like an accident.

On Nov. 10, a man named Chhagan Pawar died in what was initially thought to be a road accident in Barwani district, India Today reported. However, the police investigation found that the pickup truck that hit Chhagan was circling around the area for some time before the incident happened, leading authorities to suspect foul play.

The police tracked the vehicle and arrested the driver and two accomplices in Maharashtra. They also found that Anil, the deceased’s son, made a call to one of the accused prior to the incident that claimed his father’s life.

Upon interrogation, Anil confessed that he had his father killed in order to claim INR1 million (around SG$17,000) in life insurance money, and that he paid INR250,000 to three men to commit the crime

According to Anil’s confession, he told the hitmen about his father’s daily habit of taking a morning walk. On the day of the incident, he called the hitmen to inform them that Chhagan had already left the house. The hitmen then laid in wait in their pickup truck before ramming and killing the victim.

All individuals suspected in the crime have been arrested, and the vehicle is now in possession of the police, the report said.
