ICA to revisit devastated communities as it marks flood anniversary

6 February 2023

The Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) has announced it will join insurers to host in-person panels in South-East Queensland and NSW communities as it observes the anniversary of last year’s historic flooding.

ICA says the meetings are part of the industry’s “continuing effort” to assist policyholders and finalise remaining flood claims.

ICA CEO Andrew Hall says that 78% of the 239,000 claims relating to last year’s declared catastrophe have been completed, with the estimated insured cost of the event at $5.7 billion.

“As the one-year anniversary approaches insurers are once again undertaking in-person consultations,” Mr Hall said.

“This will be the industry’s fourth visit to some locations and each time the ICA and insurers return for these in-person meetings we help people navigate the claim process and their recovery.”

The meetings will be held from midday to 8pm at the following locations and dates:

Monday 20 February – North Brisbane at Geebung RSL (323 Newman Rd, Geebung)
Tuesday 21 February – Sunshine Coast at Maroochydore RSL (105 Memorial Ave, Maroochydore)
Wednesday 22 February – South Brisbane at Coorparoo RSL (45 Holdsworth St, Coorparoo)
Thursday 23 February – Caboolture at Caboolture Sports Centre (Hasking St & Beerburrum Rd Caboolture)

ICA has also scheduled meetings for Northern NSW communities at Lismore, Mullumbimby, Casino and Ballina next month. It says it will publish dates and locations relating to these events closer to the date.
