In the aftermath of the recent storms that swept through south-east Queensland during the holiday season, the Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) is taking steps to assist and engage with affected communities.

According to a news release, three towns—Upper Coomera, Jimboomba, and Tamborine Mountain—are set to host community information forums and insurer consultations from Jan. 31 to Feb. 2.

These forums will offer a platform for policyholders to directly engage with their insurers. The events aim to not only provide essential information on the claims process but also to address any concerns or queries policyholders may have.

On Jan. 31, the community of Upper Coomera will have consultations available from 12 pm to 5 pm, followed by a town hall session at 6 pm. A similar schedule will be replicated in Jimboomba on Feb. 1, and Tamborine Mountain on Feb. 2.

Residents impacted by the storms are encouraged to attend these sessions, where representatives from various insurance companies will be present to answer questions and provide individual assistance, the news release said. These face-to-face interactions are designed to foster a direct line of communication between insurers and policyholders.

Furthermore, legal guidance and support will be available from representatives of Legal Aid and the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA) during these sessions.

“These forums offer a valuable opportunity for policyholders to connect directly with their insurer, learn about the claims process, and access resources to navigate their recovery,” said Andrew Hall, CEO of the ICA. “The ICA and insurers are committed to supporting insurance customers through this difficult time. Our representatives will be available at the forums to provide assistance and ensure everyone receives the support they need.”
