ICA and insurers revisit Rochester for customer consultations

Four-day forum will be insurers’ third time visiting the region since October 2022 floods

The Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) and insurers will return to Rochester, Victoria, for their third in-person customer consultations since the October 2022 floods.

The four-day forum will enable Rochester residents impacted by the October 2022 flood to discuss the progress of their claims with their insurer.

The event will take place from 10am to 6pm at Rochester Shire Hall on Mackay Street from July 24 (Monday) to July 27 (Thursday).

Rochester flood claims

The ICA reported that the 2022 flood resulted in over 19,600 claims, costing $663 million in insured losses. Rochester took the most significant hit from the extreme weather event, making up 10% of the total claims count, but 30% of overall claims costs ($201 million).

ICA CEO Andrew Hall said the in-person consultations will help affected communities’ recovery process because they will enable customers to meet with their insurer face-to-face and discuss their claims process.

“The Insurance Council and insurers are aware that a significant number of claims are complex and awaiting expert reports such as engineering and hydrology, which is causing some delays. For this reason, we are making it a priority to be present and available to customers,” Hall said.
