Hub International sponsors broker accreditation award

Herb Osen is the founder of Thompson, Osen and Sherban in 1956. He was named Salute BC’s Insurance Person of the Year in 1996 for his contributions to the province’s general insurance industry. In 1996, he sold his business to Hub International, but though he stepped down from management, Osen continued to work as a producer.

Osen believed that his success was due to the team who surrounded him, and he was always quick to give credit to others for their contributions. He is also a recipient of the Hub Hall of Achievement award.

“Herb accomplished all that he did with warmth, humility and his trademark smile. His reach and legacy extend well beyond Vancouver,” said Hub International Western Canada regional president David Moon. “He built something special, and his spirit continues to enrich Hub’s culture today. We are proud to honour him and continue to uphold his legacy in the industry and with this award for many years to come.”

CAIB is the nationally recognized designation of professional insurance brokers. Brokers that pass all four CAIB exams earn the designation.

“It is quite a significant achievement for someone to complete all four CAIB levels and accomplish the highest combined average,” said IBABC executive director and COO Chuck Byrne. “This bursary in

Herb’s name is fitting as it rewards the highest level of sustained excellence, a trait Herb always strove towards himself and encouraged in others.”

In November, Hub International launched a new professional & executive risk specialty practice for North America. The new ProEx practice combines more than 100 Hub specialists with executive liability, professional liability, tech/cyber, and transactional risk insurance placement capabilities, and specialized risk and claims services.
