The Insurance Authority (IA) of Hong Kong has put out a warning regarding fraudulent payment requests purporting to be made by the regulator.
As per a news release, the IA revealed that it has been made aware of a public enquiry about a suspicious invoice with the logo of the regulator and a stamp requesting payment for an “insurance bond certificate.”
A spokesperson for the IA said that the regulator never issues any invoice in relation to anything named “insurance bond certificate.” All fees and levies relevant to the insurance regulator are listed and compiled via the official IA website.
“If members of the public receive any suspicious payment requests claiming to be made by the IA, they should verify the documents by contacting the IA via its general enquiry hotline at 3899- 9983 (select language, then press “1” > ”0”). Anyone suspecting a scam can report the case to the police via their Anti-Scam Helpline 18222,” the IA said.
