Hong Kong launches sustainable finance internship

Hong Kong’s Green and Sustainable Finance Cross-Agency Steering Group has launched the Sustainable Finance Internship Initiative, which aims to increase student internship opportunities in Hong Kong as part of efforts to strengthen the sustainable finance industry.

The Steering Group is co-chaired by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority and the Securities and Futures Commission. Its members include the Environment and Ecology Bureau, the Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau, the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited, the Insurance Authority and the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority.

The group said it is working closely with the financial industry and academic institutions to address capacity and data constraints, as well as develop resources for market participants. The initiative will build on this by offering students an opportunity to gain practical, hands-on experience in sustainable finance. This will deepen the students’ understanding of this sector and related career prospects, which can inspire them to specialise in this field.

Available sustainable finance internships will be posted in the centralised internship repository of the Centre for Green and Sustainable Finance. The Hong Kong Monetary Authority, the Securities and Futures Commission, the Insurance Authority and the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority have urged their respective constituents to join the Initiative. Steering Group member agencies will soon begin hiring interns to support their own policy and market development work in sustainable finance.
