Hiller Marine – a provider specialising in marine-related insurance products including coverage for boats, marine hulls, cargo, and supply chains – has announced the appointment of Stephen Ford to its advisory board.

Ford, previously at the helm of Associated Marine and Allianz Marine & Transit as CEO, brings his expertise to Hiller Marine to guide its strategic endeavours, enhance its relationship management, and navigate through prospective acquisitions and collaborations.

Hiller Marine now owned by two principals

Marking a pivotal shift in its operational structure, Hiller Marine now operates entirely under the ownership of Neil and Michael Hiller, transitioning from its earlier partial stake held by SURA. This change underscores Hiller Marine’s move towards full autonomy.

From March 15, 2024, the company has been authorising policies under its proprietary Australian Financial Services License (AFSL), shifting from its former association as a Corporate Authorized Representative of Sura Pty Ltd. The firm continues to leverage its AI-enhanced Marine Bind platform, facilitating access to its diverse insurance offerings for brokers.

Reflecting on the evolution of Hiller Marine, Neil Hiller acknowledged the collaboration with the AUB Group and SURA, underscoring the lasting bonds formed over the years.

“We have enjoyed a wonderful partnership with the AUB Group over the last 8 years and remain close friends with many Austbrokers and former colleagues at SURA, but we are excited by the opportunities ahead, and we are looking forward to starting to offer a broader range of traditional marine products as well as exploring new product areas,” he said.

Hiller Marine welcomes new advisor

Michael Hiller, sharing Neil’s enthusiasm, emphasised the strategic advantage Ford’s appointment brings to Hiller Marine.

“We are delighted that Steve has agreed to join us. He brings over 30 years of Australian and International insurance experience and has successfully built and managed niche agencies in our market. His insights will greatly assist us in the next stages of our development,” he said.
