Heffernan Insurance Brokers has expanded its summer internship initiative.

In line with the brokerage’s dedication to fostering future leaders within the insurance sector, Heffernan brought in 30 interns for its various departments as part of the broadened college internship program.

Each intern was assigned both an individual project, designed to deliver significant value to the company, and a group project that tackled critical cross-departmental challenges. The group projects were then presented to the executive team, offering fresh perspectives and innovative solutions for producers, account managers, and wealth managers.

In addition to practical work experience, the interns engaged in CIAB (Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers) education programs, participated in professional development sessions, and joined in coffee talks with executives.

The participants’ involvement also extended to community service, where they volunteered at Project Open Hand and The Crayon Initiative, reflecting Heffernan’s commitment to giving back.

Kate Grasman (pictured), chief information officer at Heffernan, noted: “Our interns have embraced the Heffernan culture and developed a keen interest in the industry. We are excited to expand the program through co-ops during the school year and aim to place interns at every branch next year.

“Many college interns have expressed interest in joining the company after graduation, and some have continued on part-time during their final year of college. Congratulations to our 2024 Summer Interns – you have a bright future ahead.”

Earlier this month, the company also expanded its Women Empowered program by setting up a formal mentorship scheme and backing networking opportunities while focusing on career development and training.

“The mentorship program is incredibly powerful for both the mentor and mentee,” Grasman highlighted at the time. “It is an inspiring group of women and men that participate, and the sharing of stories, ways of working, and ideas helped me connect better throughout all of Heffernan beyond my function.”
