Head of cyber makes move from AXA XL to Chaucer

Global specialty (re)insurance group Chaucer has tapped Piers Tuggey to become its head of cyber, replacing Laura Hunt who left the firm in May.

Tuggey joins Chaucer from AXA XL, where he spent four years as head of cyber. He started his career at Marsh and later became an underwriter for cyber and political violence risks at XL Caitlin before the merger with AXA in 2018.

More than 15 years of insurance experience has led Tuggey to develop thorough expertise in the placement and pricing of complex cyber risks in the specialist Lloyd’s market, especially when it comes to servicing large global corporates.

“It’s a pleasure to be joining Chaucer,” Tuggey said. “I’m very much looking forward to working alongside the team as we address the challenges posed by the ever-shifting global cyber threat landscape.”

Chaucer’s cyber unit provides clients with bespoke, industry-specific solutions and specialist services in the event of a cyber-attack, including IT/forensics, public relations and legal services. Tuggey’s team will be working closely with the firm’s marine and non-marine divisions, which enables them to attain more knowledge and understanding of this market.

“We’re delighted to welcome Piers to Chaucer,” said Paul Restarick, head of non-marine insurance at Chaucer. “He brings a wealth of underwriting talent to the firm and his knowledge and expertise in the fast-evolving area of cyber risk will help us further improve the service that we offer to clients.”
