Giant auto insurer GEICO has announced the appointment of Tangela Richter (pictured above) as its new chief legal officer.

Before joining GEICO, Richter had an extensive career in the legal and regulatory fields, most recently holding the position of executive vice president, deputy general counsel, and secretary at Wells Fargo.

Her career also includes significant leadership roles at American Express, Lending Club, and Capital One, where she honed her skills in navigating complex legal landscapes and regulatory environments.

Richter’s academic credentials include a bachelor’s degree from Howard University and a JD from Harvard Law School. Beyond her professional endeavors, Richter contributes to the arts as a member of the board of directors for the Dance Theatre of Harlem.

“I look forward to working closely with our excellent legal team, the executive leadership team, and teams across the entire company as we continue to deliver best-in-class products, services, and experiences for our millions of customers,” Richter said.

Richter will be reporting to Todd Combs, the chairman, president, and CEO of GEICO. In her new role, Richter is tasked with leading the company’s legal, government, and regulatory affairs departments.

“We are very fortunate to have someone with Tangela’s talents and experience leading our legal, government and regulatory affairs team,” Combs said. “Her exceptional problem-solving skills along with her proven ability to deliver in a rapidly changing environment will have a profound impact on our company.”
