Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. has appointed Richard Harries to its board of directors, bringing in a seasoned professional with over 35 years of insurance sector experience.

Harries’ extensive career spans various senior roles across the UK and other heavily regulated markets. Notably, he previously served as chief executive, chief underwriting officer, and energy underwriter at Atrium Underwriters Limited. Meanwhile, his tenure at Willis Faber & Dumas saw Harries in significant positions within the energy sector.

The seasoned leader’s LinkedIn profile shows he was CEO at Atrium until July 2023.

“He will play an important role as we continue to grow our client base, distinguish Gallagher, and deliver results.”

The board change comes on the heels of Gallagher’s swoop for health and benefits consulting firm Cleary Benefits Group in Connecticut.

J. Patrick Gallagher, Jr. said earlier this month: “Cleary Benefits Group has a strong industry reputation and will further enhance our benefits consulting capabilities in the region. I am very pleased to welcome Brian [Cleary], Heather [Katz], and their associates to Gallagher.”

The global insurance brokerage also recently snapped up first notice of loss and first report of injury services provider NetClaim, which will become part of claims and risk management solutions subsidiary Gallagher Bassett.

“NetClaim’s expertise in claims intake services will enhance Gallagher Bassett’s incident management capabilities and deliver superior outcomes for our clients,” J. Patrick Gallagher, Jr. noted when the deal with NetClaim owner NAVEX was announced about three weeks ago.
