Fond tributes to 'gentleman' broker

Report proposes 'self-funding' insurance model for export industries

Tributes have been paid to Director of Brisbane-based CPR Insurance Services Robert Cooper, who died aged 61 on Saturday following a battle with cancer.

CPR is an authorised representative of Ausure, and Mr Cooper’s wife Mandy, also a Director at CPR, will carry on the business.

Ausure CEO Scott McCarthy says Mr Cooper, who leaves three children, was a “close friend”.

“Robert, Mandy and CPR came to Ausure in early 2018, arriving with a reputation of being insurance brokers of the highest quality and advocates for broker professionalism and education and we were grateful that they chose Ausure as their business partner,” Mr McCarthy wrote on LinkedIn.

“Having worked as a broker and also for insurers, Robert was well known and highly respected across the industry from the east coast to the west. Somehow, Robert and Mandy also found time to be involved with numerous community groups.

“We have been in touch with Mandy over the last couple of days and extended our deepest sympathy to Mandy, their children and the staff of CPR, on behalf of the Ausure family.”

A celebration of Mr Cooper’s life is taking place at 4pm today (Thursday, Feb 2) at the Prince Consort Hotel, 230 Wickham St, Fortitude Valley and donations to the Leukaemia Foundation in his name would be welcome.

He was battling an aggressive blood cancer and was awaiting a bone marrow transplant, Mrs Cooper told insuranceNEWS.com.au.

Steadfast MD Robert Kelly worked with Mr Cooper on industry projects and described him as “a gentleman”.

“What a thorough insurance professional, a lovely man, a family man, a terrific guy and gone too soon,” Mr Kelly said.

“He would never be worried about you asking him to do something, or for some help, and he only worked at the highest level of anything he ever did. I am very sad that Robert’s gone.”
