EQC recognised for reservist employment efforts

Toka Tū Ake EQC has received the 2022 Reservist Employer of the year award at the New Zealand Defence Force Tohu awards, hosted by the minister of defence.

According to EQC, the award recognises the value and impact that its employee value proposition, also known as its People Promise, has for its people, including New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) reservists.

The promise states that EQC values its people and their wellbeing, which includes balance and flexibility to support their family, lifestyle, and career. These benefits include flexible working arrangements, an annual wellbeing fund, counselling services, and enhanced parental leaves.

“We’ve created a People Promise that is for our people, by our people. It’s tailored to help our people be their best selves both personally and professionally,” said Fiona Barker, EQC’s head of people and capability. “To see our People Promise making a difference, it’s pretty special.”

EQC said that its commitment to its employees aligns with its support of the response and recovery of New Zealand communities following an event. As an organisation, EQC also benefits from the experience and capability building that employees receive.

This year’s nominees for the reservist employer award came from across the spectrum of private sector, academia, local and central government.

“Without the support of Toka Tū Ake EQC, my career as a NZDF reservist would have ended a long time ago,” said an employee who is also a serving member of the Army Reserve. “I’m grateful that I still have the opportunity to serve our country when called upon while also being well supported by Toka Tū Ake EQC.”
