Quebec damage insurer Promutuel Insurance is supporting relief efforts amid wildfires in Alberta, which have led to the evacuation of approximately 100 Canadians.
In collaboration with its 13 mutual companies and its federation, Promutuel Insurance has pledged $30,000 to the Canadian Red Cross Relief Fund to help boost the Red Cross’s drive to provide essential aid to those displaced by the fires.
In addition to its donation, Promutuel Insurance is also urging both its employees and the public to contribute to the relief fund.
Donations can be made through www.redcross.ca or by calling 1-800-418-1111.
For those looking to contribute, emergency management consultant Scott Cameron recommends cash donations over goods.
Cameron, an ex-Jasper resident, explained: “Sometimes we can’t even anticipate what’s needed, so cash is king. Stuff is good, but it takes a lot of energy and resources to manage stuff, whereas cash allows the community and people to do what they need to do.
“A disaster is not a time to empty your basement. A disaster is a time to step forward with a contribution that’s going to provide comfort in the best way possible.”
Meanwhile, Promutuel Insurance’s donation comes on the heels of GreenShield’s partnership with the Canadian Red Cross Disaster Response Alliance (DRA).
Through an annual contribution of $200,000, the non-profit health and benefits company aims to aid the Canadian Red Cross in providing assistance to families, businesses, and communities affected by disasters.
Beyond its involvement with the DRA, GreenShield will also continue to support disaster relief by providing two hours of complimentary GreenShield Health virtual therapy to Canadians in crisis.
