Boston authorities have charged Cowbell cyber insurance lawyer Matthew Nilo on multiple counts of rape and kidnapping in connection with four sexual assaults between 2007 and 2008.

The 35-year-old was arrested by a dozen FBI agents and Boston police in his Weehawken, New Jersey home, an affidavit filed in New Jersey court stated.

Nilo is accused of sexually assaulting four women in Charlestown, Boston on Aug. 18, 2007, Nov. 22, 2007, Aug. 5, 2008, and Dec. 23, 2008, the Boston Globe reported.

Police said Nilo, who used to live in Boston’s North End, was identified as a suspect last month through investigative genetic genealogy, which combines DNA technology with historical record searches to generate new suspects in cold cases.

The charges include three counts of aggravated rape, two counts of kidnapping, one count of assault with intent to rape, and one count of indecent assault and battery.

In a statement to the Globe, a Cowbell spokesperson confirmed his employment, saying he was hired in January 2023 “after passing our background check.”

The company said that Nilo’s employment has been suspended pending further investigation.

Insurance Business has reached out to Cowbell for further comment and will update this story should it receive a response.
