Chubb expands marine to the Philippines, bolsters in Malaysia

Chubb has announced an expansion of its marine business to the Philippines, as well as the bolstering of this line in Malaysia with a new head of marine in that country. The insurer’s marine insurance line in the Philippines represents its 10th in the APAC region; the other nine are Korea, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, and Japan.

Philippine marine operations for Chubb will be led by Jeanette Cebeda, property and casualty technical lines marine and surety underwriter. The insurer also announced that it hired Owen Poh as head of marine in Malaysia.

In a news release, Chubb regional marine and fine art manager Anthony O’Brien said that Cebeda’s and Poh’s appointments are testament to the insurer’s commitment to delivering a high level of service to the boating, transport, and shipping communities.

“Beyond the product capabilities, a key focus area is the offline service to complement Chubb’s investments within the digital area,” O’Brien said. “We have made significant investments in our products, services and people but we have more to do in 2023 and beyond in supporting our existing and new distribution channels. We are not content maintaining the status quo as we are already designing our next product for a growing recreation boat segment in Asia.”

Elsewhere in the company, Chubb has also announced Frances O’Brien’s appointment as its new executive vice president and chief risk officer.
