Centene Corporation has announced that it has appointed Shannon T. Susko (pictured above) as senior vice president and chief communications officer.

In her new role, Susko will be responsible for spearheading the development and execution of all of Centene’s internal and external communications, overseeing corporate reputation and advancing the company’s communications strategy.

“Shannon is an accomplished leader with a distinguished track record in strategic communications and a deep understanding of the healthcare and financial landscape,” said Sarah M. London, CEO of Centene. “Her background, breadth of experience and leadership will be integral as she partners with our senior management team to amplify the Centene story, highlighting our mission, vision and values to stakeholders.”

Susko has more than two decades of experience in strategic, corporate and crisis communications. Prior to joining Centene, she served at Edelman Smithfield as managing director and co-head of strategic situations and investor relations and head of healthcare. She has also served as vice president of communications at Global Strategy Group.

Susko was the founder of Susko & Co., a consulting firm that advised clients in the healthcare and financial services industries. She also spent a decade at TriWest Healthcare Alliance, a Department of Defense-managed contractor responsible for the administration of TRICARE, the US military’s healthcare program.

Susko is the latest addition to Centene’s roster. Last month, the company appointed Anika Gardenhire as its chief customer experience officer. In March, it announced the appointment of Tanya McNally as chief people officer
