CASE STUDY: Motor bike holiday cover
John Mawer and his wife often visit their daughter in the Isle of Man. Mostly they drive but John also travels there on occasion on his motor bike. A reciprocal Government agreement means that their medical costs are covered but if they needed to get back home following a medical emergency they would have to cover the repatriation costs. John found it challenging to find a travel insurance policy that covered just repatriation that didn’t exclude him from riding a motor bike over 150cc.
After considering a number of providers that couldn’t meet John’s needs, he was referred to BIBA’s Find Insurance Service who quickly transferred him to a specialist broker who could help. John said: “Our situation is a bit unusual but the BIBA Find Insurance Service and the broker AllClear were extremely helpful. I ended up with a full travel policy excluding the add ons but at least we have repatriation costs covered and importantly I’m protected when riding my motorbike. I was surprised about the motor bike exclusions in many policies and I’m sure that lots of other people might not be aware of the detail in the small print– in fact I got so caught up with the challenge of finding insurance that allowed me to ride my motorbike that I initially forgot to add my wife onto the policy! But AllClear soon sorted that out for me.”
