Global specialty (re)insurer Canopius Group has unveiled the establishment of its medical malpractice business and appointed Ashley Moulton as healthcare underwriter.
Moulton brings extensive experience in medical malpractice, life sciences, and liability, spanning over a decade. Her previous role was at Coverys Syndicate 1975, where she played a pivotal role in the rapid growth of the life sciences binder book and the development of the US medical malpractice portfolio. Prior to that, she worked as an underwriter in CFC Underwriting’s life sciences division. Moulton began her career at QBE in 201.
Canopius’ new medical malpractice business will underwrite a diverse range of international healthcare risks, with a particular focus on the US market. In the near future, additional appointments will join Moulton, the company said.
“Ashley brings a perfect combination of technical underwriting skills and commercial acumen, ensuring the rapid success of our medical malpractice business,” said Alois Rouffiac, UK chief underwriting officer and active underwriter at Canopius. “This market is ripe for new entrants, and I am certain that clients and brokers will benefit from Ashley’s service-oriented approach, the new capacity, and Canopius’ longstanding commitment to every class we enter.”
“Canopius is the ideal platform to establish a new healthcare portfolio,” Moulton said. “The business has experienced exceptional growth, and its talent and strategic direction are compelling. With rates becoming more favorable and the market adapting to reduced capacity from various carriers, launching a new division at an innovative organization like Canopius is an exciting opportunity. I am confident that our healthcare business will thrive and expand rapidly.”
