BMS Re, the specialty reinsurance division of global broker BMS Group, has appointed Anthony Mirabal as CEO of its Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) division, effective November 2024.

Mirabal brings over 30 years of reinsurance experience to the role, having begun his career as a casualty underwriter with Gen Re. He later held various underwriting, production, and management positions at reinsurance companies such as ERC and EWB.

In 2001, he founded the reinsurance intermediary RRISC, based in Miami. The business was acquired by JLT Re in late 2016, leading to his six-year tenure at Guy Carpenter following Marsh & McLennan’s acquisition of the JLT Group in 2018.

In his new role, Mirabal will report to Nick Gillett, CEO of BMS International, and remain based in Miami. He will work alongside Juan Carlos Gomez, who will take on the role of president of Latin America and Caribbean. Together, they will shape regional strategy and support local offices.

Gillett (pictured above) commented on the appointment, stating that Mirabal’s leadership skills, market expertise, and technical proficiency will bolster the firm’s presence in the LAC region.

“With the successful establishment and ongoing growth of our businesses across Latin America and the Caribbean, where Tony has developed strong relationships over many years,” Gillett said. “I look forward to partnering closely with him as we drive the next phase of BMS Re’s expansion in the region, with a focus on continued investment in our global reinsurance platform. In collaboration with the Group, we will continue to provide exceptional service to our clients.”
