Independent specialist insurance and reinsurance broker BMS Group has announced the appointment of Tim Hewitt as the head of BMS in Japan.

Hewitt’s initial focus will be on brokering insurance solutions for both inbound and outbound mergers and acquisitions (M&A) activities. With the Japanese M&A market gaining momentum, BMS says that there is a growing demand for intricate risk mitigation tools for dealmakers.

Fluently bilingual in Japanese and English, Hewitt is a long-term resident of Japan and brings over two decades of experience in the legal industry to his role. According to his LinkedIn, he served as the associate general counsel for a global private equity firm’s portfolio company, holding legal leadership positions for several years. His background also includes years as an M&A transactions specialist at top law firms in Tokyo and Sydney.

With this appointment, BMS aims to solidify its position as the preferred specialty insurance broker in Japan. This is achieved by aiding buyers in safeguarding their investments and helping sellers minimize their post-deal closure liabilities.

BMS has a substantial presence across Asia, with existing offices in Hong Kong, Singapore, Seoul, and now Tokyo. The company is committed to further investment in the region to meet the growing demand for localized insurance solutions.

“BMS is respected globally for our specialist market knowledge and strong personal relationships with clients and partners,” said Sandra Lee, BMS Asia CEO. “Tim’s breadth of expertise will be invaluable in our strategy to expand our presence in Asia and strengthen our international PEMAT operations. We are very proud of this milestone, which will put BMS in a very solid position for long-term growth in the region.”
