Beneva to reduce insurance paperwork for physicians

Beneva has announced that it will modify its requirements to allow physicians to perform less paperwork, reducing the amount of administrative burden they must go through.

The group benefits insurer’s decision comes after the Fédération des médecins omnipraticiens du Québec (FMOQ) recently shared the results of a poll, which found that physicians spent 24% of their time completing insurance documents.

“We are pleased to help reduce the administrative burden of family physicians so that they can devote more time to the care of their patients, who are also in many cases our plan members,” said Beneva executive vice president and group insurance leader Éric Trudel. “It is through the sum of small, caring gestures that we help improve the fluidity of services provided by physicians.”

According to Beneva, it believes in the importance of reducing the administrative burden on physicians – especially as one of the largest group benefits insurers in Quebec. The company also highlighted that it generally does not require plan members to provide medical prescriptions when they are submitting claims for paramedical services (i.e. psychology, physiotherapy, chiropractic services), with certain rare exceptions.

Beneva also highlighted in a release that it uses the standardized form agreed upon by the Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association (CLHIA) and the FMOQ to administer disability insurance claims. The insurer also continues to collaborate with CLHIA and FMOQ to further simplify the form and reduce the amount of administrative work required of physicians.

In November, Beneva, entered an agreement to sell the distribution business of its subsidiary SSQ Dealer Services to Sym-Tech Dealer Services, a subsidiary of Amynta Group. SSQ Dealer Services offers automotive protection products and services to a network of dealers throughout Quebec. Through the transaction, Sym-Tech will acquire the distribution network of SSQ Dealer Services and its extended warranty portfolio.
